The film is the third installment in the Fukrey franchise and is a sequel to the 2017 Comedy drama, Fukrey Returns, directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba. This 3rd outing after the super-hits Fukrey (2013) and Fukrey Returns (2017), is another laugh riot with fresh tracks & funky, quirky visuals. Whilst the original cast is set to return in the newer installment – consisting of Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Richa Chadha, and Pankaj Tripathi, this one feels like Fukrey 3 could potentially be another addition foray into the madcap adventure of the “Fukra” gang. Full of laughter, amusement, and a little bit of social satire his film revives high spirits about friendship, anarchism, and comedy mishits.
The review will dissect the film’s story, performance’s manner of direction, and its overall movie-watching experience enabling a detailed analysis along with rating.
Plot Overview
The story of Fukrey 3 resumes from where the second film ended. The principal quartet of Hunny (Pulkit Samrat), Choocha (Varun Sharma), Zafar (Ali Fazal), and Lali (Manjot Singh) is yet to crack life in an unusual style. This time, they are part of another plan cooked up by none other than Choocha, whose “Deja Chu” (a different version of premonition) results in a multimillion-dollar scheme. But true to every Fukrey film, the madness stretches into a seemingly endless array of shenanigans and lands the gang into new trouble with another set of goons.
These are further scrambling to fathom Bholi Punjaban’s (Richa Chadha) havoc in life who has breathed fire and is ready to pay back in full, so we’re told. Bad choices and crazy rides take the Fukras further down the complicated road as they are faced with some wild consequences. Well, this time the stakes are higher, and the laughing is reaching an all-time high for audiences watching to see if they can escape without getting caught in the disaster that they have created.
Just listening to the storyline can cause you to groan if you have watched these movies in the past, but it is rendered with so much humor and goodwill that it plays very funny and well. The humor is biting, and though the movie never skimps on its slapstick roots, it leavens in light sneers of current social stigmas akin to a nice chuckle.
Performances
The shines of Fukrey 3 are truly performances. The same ensemble cast that has been with the franchise from the beginning is back at it and is all as memorable and entertaining as you would expect.
Varun Sharma as Choocha: For sure, the most charming thing about the film. Varun Sharma is in top form, totally stealing the show every time he appears with his impeccable comic timing that just offers giggles for most of its part with his whacko chucks and grooved tude_helper personality. His portrayal of the charmingly idiotic character of Choocha is endearing and leaves a smile on the audience’s lips.
Pulkit Samrat aHunny: Samrat goes to show the charm as well as a street-smart leader from the gang This bromance is still the heart of the film and their chemistry as Choocha and Hunny remains as strong. Performance: Samrat maintains his charm and proves genuinely mischievous which shows.
Zafar aka Ali Fazal — though he is not that funny, was the level-headed person in the group. It turns out his character has balance amidst the chaos, and going a little carried away with this part grabs you neither the moment nor himself off but with some outrageous oomph to it, Shakuntala Devi’s wdup meets Fazal halfway in these two spaces where one space exists for each half.
Manjot Singh As Lali: The most innocent and unnoticed character of the gang. His performance is reliable with him giving you some of the chuckles through Lali’s shy and awkward character.
Richa Chadha as Bholi Punjaban: It is always a treat to watch Richa Chadha as the fierce and intimidating Bholi Punjaban. With her powerful screen presence and fun dialogues, she fought back as a strong antagonist. Chadha does an excellent job of maintaining that balance between sinister with the camp, enhancing its entertainment factor overall.
Pankaj Tripathi as Pandit Ji — give him any role, and Pankaj Tripathi can steal the screen. The dry humor and deadpan expressions are some of the funnier moments in this film. Tripathi makes it seem so easy, that his slightest gesture can last long in our memories.
Direction and Screenplay
After having directed the previous installments, Mrighdeep Singh Lamba returns to helm Fukrey 3. Lamba does well by retaining the franchise’s invincibility to bring gags and character dynamics in your face reels. Although the story itself is nothing to write home about, Lamba does a good job of keeping his story moving quickly enough to engage throughout. Directed by Tarun Dhanrajgir, the focus is on creating situational comedy and there are many moments where you laugh out loud making the film all sugar-sweet. It’s amazing how much wit and humor a screenplay—penned by Lamba and Vipul Vig—is capable of sprouting. There is a clear understanding of what makes each character tick by the out-front writers who capitalize on everything that their actors do best, resulting in strong memorable beats. Yet, as with the past films, the script falters at times with formulaic scenes and reused gags. Even so, to dwell on that would be to overlook just how enjoyable this car is.
Cinematography and Music
In Delhi, where the film is based, cinematographer Andre Menezes manages to retain the boisterous identity of the location. Everything is colorful and vibrant, mirroring the chaotic energy of the characters and their antics. The chase scenes, street scenes, and some comic fillers in the movie are very well shot also which customs in sometimes overall watching experience.
The quirky style of music, composed by various talented artists, matches the nature of the film. With the likes of “Fuk Fuk Fukrey” and “Ambarsariya“, tracks from its previous outing have turned iconic, and Filhall 3 follows suit with numbers that are high-energy but sound as if they’re a part of the film. The background score is very apt, it perfectly complements the time of comedy and fun element to the whole setting. Fukrey 3 Movie Review and Ratings | Brutal Criticism & Analysis
Themes and Social Commentary
While all in the land of dreams are not roses, Fukrey 3 is a slight expose of corruption and greed but more as a warning against taking shortcuts to stardom. Although foregrounded by fun and funny frat-community craziness, Vaudeville Theater for the 21st century remarks with wry irony on fraternity, camaraderie, tolerance, and acceptance. Subtly, Lamba smuggles in comments on issues of the day, never undermining that light tone.
The heart of friendship, loyalty, and having each other’s back in the hour of need is still a powerful thread all through the film. This camaraderie is what has endeared the Fukrey franchise to audiences.
